Sigismund Beer
American, ca. 1819-1895
MaleSigismund Beer was intermittently listed as a photographer in New York City from 1863 to 1869. In 1863 he was partnered with his brother Louis, and at some point was presumably partner in Beer & Co. at 564 Broadway, an address not found in directories or advertisements. In 1867 he won a bronze medal for his stereoscopic views at the Exposition Universelle in Paris. After 1869, when he was a photographer and "inventor of seasoning wood," he worked a variety of jobs before settling on real estate, in which he worked into the 1890s. He evidently had no family, as he willed his property to the widow of his brother. He died in 1895.
