Continental Gallery
American, active 1870s-1880s
No Gender (Business or Collective)The Continental Gallery, or Continental Ferrotype Co., opened in January, 1870 in Burlington, Vermont with Elias O. Wormell and C. H. Foster as partners. Foster's involvement may have been brief. In 1872, Wormell opened a branch in Rutland, in the old studio of C. W. Nichols. In September, 1876 Wormell moved his Burlington studio to the former gallery of Hills & Bowers. On December 15, 1879 the gallery was destroyed by fire. Though it was not insured, he reopened in the spring. In 1883, Will J. Brown was noted as the proprietor of the gallery. While Wormell remained a photographer in Burlington, it is unclear whether he was associated still with the Continental Gallery. The last mentions of the gallery were found in 1883.
