In 1884, Francis Hacker was listed in the Providence, Rhode Island city directory as both a photographer and an agent for the Hacker Photo Co. (and Charles E. Hacker was listed as a skater at the same address; by 1886, Charles had graduated to bicyclist). He had been a photographer in Providence since the early 1850s. The studio was in operation until 1894, when he retired to Ontario, Canada where he died in 1904.
