In December, 1865 J. P. Blessing & Bro. advertised as successors to Blessing & Patrick in Houston, Texas. The firm was a partnership of John Phillip Blessing and Solomon Thomas Blessing. They opened a Galveston studio about 1868, and continued there under the name even after John moved to Baltimore in 1880. In 1869 through the 1870s, they were agents for a sewing machine company, as well as photographers and dealers of photographic supplies. In 1878 it was noted that J. P. Blessing had returned to Galveston after an absence of two years. In November, 1880 P. H. Rose was reported to bought all the Blessing & Bro. negatives. J. P. had left for Baltimore, leaving his brother to continue the firm as dealers in artists' materials, including photographic supplies. In January, 1885 a third brother, Samuel Tobias Blessing had bought the business and its stock, and would operate it under his name as a branch of his New Orleans studio. Solomon T. Blessing would remain as manager in Galveston.
