Isaac Crater was a photographer in Chicago by 1862. In 1864, J. Oscar Bill was an operator for John Carbutt's studio. The following year, Oscar is not found, though there is a John H. Bill, a photographer for J. Battersby. One of these was likely the partner in the studio of Crater & Bill. Crater died in 1866, and his studio was sold at acution to Daniel F. Brandon.
