In May of 1875, Leonard & Martin advertised for "14 printers, 5 retouchers, 3 assistant operators, 4 persons to take charge of front room and wait on customers, and one poet." Their advertisements did not feature poetry. In 1877 they began advertising Heleneotypes, which were photographs transferred to glass "and painted by Mrs. F. P. Baker." The Heleneotypes did not become a fad, but the firm otherwise was successful, and moved to a larger studio in 1880. In 1889, Martin alone was listed as successor to Leonard & Martin. James H. Leonard also continued in photography until 1913.
