Jordan H. Abbott
American, 1830-1879
MaleBorn in Maine in 1830, Jordan H. Abbott was daguerreotypist in Hamilton, NY by 1855, and in Little Falls by 1860. He had moved to Albany by 1862 and in 1864 was partnered with Jacob L. Abbott as J. H. & J. L. Abbott. The partnership was evidently brief, though Jordan H. Abbott continued in Albany into 1867. In 1869 he announced the opening of a studio in Chicago. He may have lost his studio in the fire of 1871, as he was not listed in the 1872 directory, and in 1873 the new partnership of Abbott & Tinsley advertised themseleves as "about the only photograph gallery in the burnt district." In 1875, Abbott was listed alone at 150 State Street, and in 1876 he was listed as a photographer with a residential address only. In 1879, the year of his death, Charles A. Abbott was a partner in Abbott & Kraft at 150 State Street.
