Stereoviews in the New York Public Library collection identify Bryant & Smith as photographers and publishers of Washington, DC. No evidence of this studio is found in directories or newspapers. However, in 1866 and 1867, a firm by the same name was a partnership of George S. Bryant and Daniel W. Smith. This firm succeeded Holmes, Booth & Haydens, for whom Smith had managed the photographic department. Bryant was formerly of John Sawyer & Co. The New York Bryant & Smith was gone by 1868.
