Herbert Nelson Gale was a photographer in Bristol, Connecticut from 1878 until his death in 1902. He was also an inventor and worked on steam engines, and held a patent for a widely used glass photo mount. In 1896 he owned the first automobile in Bristol. The studio name of H. N. Gale & Co. was not found in advertiserments or directories, but their stereo views were published by Penfield & West, a Bristol variety store which operated from about 1882 until 1891.
