Horace Partridge & Co.
American, active 1870s-1920s
No Gender (Business or Collective)Benjamin F. Hunt Jr. took over Horace Partridge's Boston fancy goods store in 1872, becoming Horace Partridge & Co. and moving to 51 Hanover Street. The firm eventually included Frank P. Partridge. In addition to housewares, toys, watches and jewellery, the store distributed or published stereo views. Views in the collection of the New York Public Library also include the name Franklin Printing House Press at 53 Hanover Street. This would suggest that Partridge & Co. were publishing views printed by Franklin. There were printers with the name Franklin starting in 1883: James E., Thomas and William Franklin. Beginning in 1885 and continuing into the 1890s they had a business address on State Street. It is possible that they were printers for Partridge before they had their own studio. Partridge & Co. continued into the 1920s.
