The identities of the partners of the French & Bass studio of Rockland, Massachusetts are not confirmed, but Bass was likely Edwin A. Bass, who was a 23 year old photographer there in 1880. It was reported that in April, 1877 much of their stock was damaged in a fire. Despite the lack of evidence in newspapers or directories, the studio continued after the fire. A stereoscpoic view in the New York Public Library collection shows a large family gathering in Hanover, Massachusetts and is described and dated 1878 by a participant in the gathering.
