Edward L. Allen
American, 1830-1914
MaleEdward L. Allen arrived in the US from Nova Scotia in 1849 and was a daguerreotypist in Boston as early as 1851. By 1860 he was also a dealer of daguerreotype apparatus. In 1861 he partenered with Henry W. Horton as Allen & Horton. That partnership lasted just a year. In 1874 he partnered with Frank Rowell as Allen & Rowell, a partnership that lasted into 1892. He appeared on the 1900 census as a photographer, a widower boarding at 603 Tremont Street, but is not positively identified in the city directory in that or subsequent years. He died at his home in Roxbury, January 6, 1914.
