MaleStephen J. Scherer Jr. first appeared as a photographer for his father's Buffalo studio. Moving to New York, he opened a string of studios, and branched into movie houses and five cent vaudeville shows. In December, 1908 a balcony collapsed in his Golden Rule Moving Picture Theatre at 125 Rivington Street, killing one. He was arrested for criminal negligence. In September of 1909, he filed for bankruptcy.
