William N. Bishop operated a studio in Altoona, Pennsylvania with his brother Henry Theodore Bishop as early as 1884. His brother left for Minneapolis in 1886, but kept the name Bishop Bros. until 1892, when the studio was bought out by Edward Kotteman. Bishop continued as a photographer for Kotteman. In 1904, Bishop opened a studio in Hollidaysburg. In 1910, he bought out Kottman and returned to Altoona. On his death in March, 1921, the headline read: "Local Wizard of Camera is Dead."
