View raw data

Joseph Lewis was the son of photographer Richard A. Lewis, Sr. He was listed as a photographer, himself, on the 1865 New York census, living in his father's household. He was not positively identified in the city directory that year, and it is possible that he was working in his father's studio, as he was in 1872. He was a photographer, though without a studio address, as late as 1888. On the 1892 New York census his occupation was given as "overseer". He died the following year.
