Cornelius V. D. Cornell was possibly a partner in the studio of Dowd & Cornell in New York in 1851-1852. In 1860 he was farming in Lodi, New York, and in 1866, both he and his wife Minerva were photographers there. Stereo mounts in the New York Public Library collection put the duo in Waterloo, New York as well, though throughout the 1870s, Cornelius alone was listed as a photographer there. He was active in the Baptist Church, and in 1880 he published Cornell's Key to Bible Study, or The Bible Taught as a Science. He was listed in Millport in the census that year, an author. It also noted that he was paralysed. He was living in Millport, New York at the time of his death, and his widow was then living in Ovid.
