Alexander Kyle arrived in the US from his native Ireland around 1847. In 1865 he began as an assistant to George H. McConnell, and later Rodney F. Adams in Saint Louis. He started his own studio on Franklin Avenue in 1871, where he remained before moving to New York ca. 1884. His son Alexander Jr. was also a photographer by 1900.
