View raw data

Hedley is first found as a photographer in 1879 in Rochester, NY. Two other Hedleys are listed as photographers as well, including Elizabeth C. Hedley. The family, it seems, was run out of town after a newspaper expose showed Elizabeth Hedley's "spirit photography" practice was fraudulent. Although the Rochester directory says she "removed to Chicago" in 1880, neither she, nor any of the family are found there. He turns up sporadically in Medina and Niagara Falls throughout that decade. In 1900 he is a real estate agent in Buffalo; an attendant for the almshouse in Schenectady in 1910; in 1920 he is found in Los Angeles with no occupation. An earlier note from an unrecorded source said that Hedley was also a taxidermist at some point.
