W. H. Clark is identified on stereo mounts as the manager of the Great Southern Photo Co. of Greenville, South Carolina. The studio name is not found in advertisements or directories, but was likely active in the 1870s. In 1880 he was a partner in Clark Bros. in Newberry, advertising 15 years' experience as a photographer. In October, 1882 he announced his removal to Florida. J. Z. Salter purchased his studio. He was not long in Florida, as both his wife and daughter died within day of eachother in October, 1883. In September, 1884 he was in Saint Louis, Missori where he we the widow of an unnamed photographer. The Newberry newspaper noted "the courtship was by the instantaneous process." By 1888 he was manager and editor of the St. Louis Photographer, later the St. Louis & Canadian Photographer.
