After studying at the State College in Burlington, Vermont, Charles Johnathan Huntington rejoined his family in 1876 in Olympia, Washington where his father was a prominent minister. Charles was a photographer and took stereo views throughout Washington Territory. He partnered with one of his four brothers as Huntington Bros., who published his views. A notice in the (Olympia) Washington Standard in March, 1877 announced that Charles J. Huntington "shall not be at Woodard's Gallery after March 19th." He was at the Dollarhide Gallery in Seattle in April, and and made repeated visits through June, 1878. R. C. Graves was identified as his agent there. While photographing in the Public Hall of La Connor, Washington on November 1, 1878, he suddenly dropped dead of heart disease.
