James P. Armbrust was a musician in the 133rd Pennsylvania Infantry, Company A. Both he and his father, also a photographer, fought together in the Civil War. After the war he was a photographer in Pensylvania, Cincinnati and various locations in Maine. By the 1890s he owned a quarry.
