John Jacob Loeffler
American, 1833-1901
MaleJohn Jacob Loeffler arrived in the US from Germany in 1854. He took over the Tompkinsville, Staten Island studio of Charles Hoyer around 1860. An 1865 advertisement announced "Ladies and Gentlemen can have their Photographs taken on horseback". His older brother August Loeffler (1817-1895) was a painter, and his sons August and Alexander followed him into the photography business. Little information is found on his career, though he was active as late as 1890.
