Huntington's primary occupation in the 1890s was as a manager of H. W. Palmer & Co., who are listed as "carmen". Huntington worked on the side as a publisher of Civil War views, first asTaylor & Huntington, then with The War Photograph & Exhibition Co. Both publishing companies involved John C. Taylor as a partner, and both drew on an extensive collection of Matthew Brady negatives in their posession. On a 1917 veterans census, in possibly his own hand, he describes his physical ailments: "mind lost".
